What is Combination Skin?

A mixed skin type with oily T-zone and dry cheeks

Requires different care for different areas; one of the most common skin types among Koreans.

Key characteristics

Combination skin shows a mixed pattern in which, due to differences in sebaceous gland distribution, the T-zone (forehead and nose) is oily and shiny while the U-zone such as the cheeks and around the eyes is dry. Because the oil-water state differs by area, it is hard to manage with a single product, and it may lean toward dry or oily depending on the season. It is known to be a relatively common type among Koreans.

How to manage

Multi-care is recommended: after cleansing, applying plenty of moisturizing cream to dry cheeks and a light formula to the shiny T-zone, caring for each area differently. The common approach is to spot-use a clay mask or BHA only on the T-zone and use a low-irritation hydrating base product over the whole face. Adjusting the weight of the formula with the seasons is good.

Good to know alongside

Because it is easily confused with dehydrated oily and oily skin, area-by-area assessment is important, and sebum-care ingredients for the T-zone and barrier ingredients such as ceramides for the U-zone are mentioned together.

Everyday care tips

When using masks, multi-masking — placing a moisturizing pack on the cheeks and a clay pack on the T-zone separately — can help balance each area.
